My Story!
Welcome! I'm Dr. Samuel Hickson, a dedicated therapist, social scientist, and performer with a unique journey that has deeply shaped my approach to mental health care. My path into therapy was profoundly influenced by my experiences as a gay male, which developed my keen understanding of the impact of mistrust and exclusion on mental well-being. This personal journey inspired my doctoral research, where I focused on the complexities of mental health within the LGBTQIA+ community, examining the dynamics of identity, resilience, and the challenges faced by those seeking acceptance and belonging.

In my practice, I bring a multifaceted approach tailored to each individual’s needs, combining cognitive-behavioral therapy, narrative therapy, expressive techniques, and solution-focused strategies. I believe therapy is a collaborative, empowering experience, and I work closely with clients to create a safe, supportive space for exploration, growth, and healing. Drawing on my skills as a performer, I incorporate creative elements into our sessions, making therapy an engaging and dynamic journey. This background allows me to bring empathy, authenticity, and flexibility to each session, helping clients tap into new perspectives and strengths.

If you're looking to build trust, work through life’s challenges, or explore your identity in an accepting environment, I’m here to support you every step of the way. Together, we’ll leverage your inner strengths and unlock pathways to a more confident, fulfilling life.
